留学在英国必须了解的英式俚语

  留学英国的时候,肯定会碰见一群喜欢说英式俚语的腐国盆友。。呐,有童鞋就表示在超市碰见收银台老太太喊他love,然而这个词并不是什么爱人,很多英国老太太都喜欢用这个词的。。来一起学习下留学生活会碰见的那些英式俚语吧~

  1. Knackered ? exhausted/tired筋疲力尽

  2. Pants ?undergarments/underwear, not trousers 内裤

  3. Cheesed off ? angry 生气

  4. Put a sock in it ? keep quiet 保持安静

  5. Pissed ? nope this doesn’t meansomeone is angry it means they’re drunk! 不是某人生气的意思,而是喝醉的意思!

  6. Chips/crisps ? These two wordsare not to be used interchangeably! 这两个词不可以替换

  a) Chips: French fries, hence fish & chips! 法式炸薯条

  b) Crisps: thin slices of potato a.k.a. what we call potato chips 薯片

  7. What are you on about? ? If someone asks you, this actually means “What areyou talking about?”你在说什么?

  8. Hello love ? This doesn’t meanthat the person saying it is in love with or loves you. It’s just a term of endearment usually said by older woman. I foundthis really strange in my first month when shopkeepers/cashiers greeted me likethis. (the word love can be substituted by sweetheart, darling, or dear) 并不是什么爱人,很多英国老妇人喜欢用这个词,love可以用sweetheart, darling, or dear代替

  9. Gutted ? it has nothingto do with removing guts! It actually means to be really upset, I guess ifsomeone did remove your guts, you be pretty upset about it 不是去除内脏,而是非常生气的意思。。

  10. Lift ? elevator 电梯

  11. Loo ? bathroom/toilet厕所

  12. Bangers ? sausages 香肠

  13. Spotted dick (not what you might think) ? It’s a sortof pudding usually served with custard. It’s quite often served for dessert in university halls! 啊哦,这个不是你想的那个东西哦。。而是一种用custard做成的布丁,英国大学食堂里有很多这个。。样子参考下图↓↓

  14. Dodgy ? suspicious 可疑的

  15. Car boot ? the trunk of thecar 汽车后备箱

  16. Taking the piss ? making fun ofsomeone 取笑某人

  17. Fit ? it doesn’t mean tobe healthy, it means someone is hot or good-looking 不是健康的意思,而是某人身材棒棒,或者颜值高

  18. Nicked ? stolen 被偷

  19. Quid ? a pound / £1 一英镑

  20. Fancy ? like 喜欢

  21. Cock-up ? mess up 弄得乱七八糟

  22. Sorted ? arranged / allset 准备妥当

  23. Nosh/grub ? food 食物

  24. Nutter ? a crazy person 疯子

  25. Not my cup of tea ? not what I like or something I don’t like very much 我不(太)喜欢的东西
